Our Inca Trail Tour was absolutely incredible and exceeded all expectations! This was largely due to our guide Henrry who is so knowledgeable about the landscape, history, astronomy and spirituality of the region - he also has a really fun attitude & energy. The chef was wonderful and cooked us delicious food, it was lovely to try some peruvian classics while also accommodating our dietary requirements. All of the team at SAS were so welcoming and made our trek so special and memorable, we can’t thank you enough!!
read moreIncredible experience and will never forget!
Dayvis is the best tour guide. He is super nice, very knowledgeable and very accommodating! The whole SAS trek team is incredible and highly will recommend to all my family and friends! It was my birthday and they even baked me a cake with what they had, it meant so much to me! Appreciated all the cooks, porters and especially our guide Dayvis. We are so thankful for SAS !!
Best Salkantay Tour Company!!
SAS went above and beyond in every way for our 5 day salkantay trail! Best trip ever! Highly recommend this company for the best service and experience.
Roger, our tour guide made every moment so special full of knowledge sharing, laughter, and positivity. He brought us on special add on hikes and excursions that were incredible. Oscar, our chef, prepared literal feasts for every meal that were all delicious, unique, and nourishing. Other tour groups were salivating when they saw the food we were served. Elias, quickly became our friend with morning tent wake-ups with cocoa tea, his huge smile, and incredible service for camping and meal time. All of the staff was incredible and made our experience feel like “glamping” in the most beautiful Peruvian Andes scenery.
Jonathan, made planning this trip so easy with quick responses and extreme flexibility when we had to reschedule to 2022 after the 2020 surprise pandemic interrupted plans.
It should also be noted that during our trip there were strikes going on that led to blockades around Cusco, making it difficult to get to the trailhead on day 1. However, our SAS team was the only tour company that found a way for us to begin the trip on time with commitment and creativity. We are so thankful for SAS!!
Amazing 4d/3n classic Inca trail.!
I just finished hiking the 4d/3n classic Inca trail with SAS and would absolutely recommend this company. Communication was great from start to finish - even before my friend and I booked the tour, Jonathan was extremely responsive and helpful in answering all of our questions.
On the hike, our tour guide Deyviss was extremely knowledgeable about the history and culture of the Inca empire. He was also very accommodating for the varying fitness levels in our group, even helping me carry my backpack when I got really bad altitude sickness on the second day. Elias, the porter team, and the chef were also phenomenal, running ahead of us to ensure everything ran on schedule.
Overall, this was an amazing experience and I really enjoyed hiking with Deyviss and team!
Sacred Valley plus Short Inca Trail.!
Just finished the Sacred Valley plus Short Inca Trail 3 Days/ 2 Nights Tour. The tour was incredible and more than covered everything in the prospective. But what really made the trip was the office staff and the guide. The personal attention from the Cusco office staff Jonathan as he setup the trip just as we requested including getting tickets to Huayna Piccho Mountain at the time we wanted and arranging for airport transport and Covid testing. I had a few special needs due to age and allergies, and he made sure that they were addressed.
Our guide for the 3 days, Danny Ramirez, was both an expert guide with a deep knowledge of Inca and Spanish culture as well as the local flora and fauna, but also a personal coach, encouraging me forward yet giving me space to enjoy some of the most spectacular scenery on the planet. It was a real privilege for me and my family to spend 3 days with him. Thank you.

Refugio and Posada Amazonas opened its doors in 1998 and has become a major attraction for those looking for a short stay in the rainforest with the promise of an authentic eco-tourist experience. The lodge is situated within the community's private reserve. Using local materials and architecture combined with modern expertise, the lodge is community built and as such is a testament to workmanship and endeavor.
---
Canopy Tower.- Our 30-meter scaffolding canopy tower gives you spectacular views of the vast expanses of standing forests. You will have good chances of spotting toucans, parrots, macaws or mixed species canopy flocks.
Ñape Ethnobotanical Center.- You will visit Centro Ñape, a traditional community clinic, where the shaman or his assistant will take you on a unique tour to explain the uses of various medicinal plants.
Lake.- We will paddle around the Lake Tres Chimbadas on a catamaran, looking for the resident family of Giant River Otters, and wildlife such as hoatzin, caiman or horned screamers.
Farm Visit.- Visit a working jungle farm to learn about local agriculture and life. You will taste exotic tropical fruits including the source of chocolate and little know relatives of the tomato.
Natural Construction Rooms.- Bedrooms open out onto the surrounding rainforest, allowing you to enjoy this diverse ecosystem even during downtime, with wild animals, including monkeys, often visible from the lodge.Community Owned.- Posada Amazonas is owned by the indigenous Ese-Eja community of Infierno and managed in partnership with Rainforest Expeditions, Posada Amazonas is located within the Ese-Eja’s communal reserve, next to the Tambopata National Reserve.
Ese Eja Day.- One of the highlights of a stay at Posada Amazonas is the opportunity to experience a day with the local community. We call it a chance to meet the real guardians of the rainforest. Ese Eja Day is a half-day experience that includes catch and release fishing, a visit to the Heritage House and a delicious lunch. An extra fee is required for this activity.
Arrive in Puerto Maldonado, capital of Madre de Dios, and join a 1-hour bus and 1-hour boat journey till the lodge. Your first taste of the Amazon culinary will be in the river while you let the city behind to enjoy the amazing jungle landscapes.
Refugio Amazonas awaits -a spacious ecolodge, with bar, a massage center, and buffet service with the Tambopata National Reserve behind it. This eco-lodge is home of Wired Amazon, the first citizen science project which turns explorers into a citizen scientist.
Accommodation includes a 45-meter square room with mosquito nets, a private bathroom and an open wall facing the forest.
Your stay includes three meals daily, teas, coffee, guided excursions and activities, refreshments upon arriving, and transfers to and from the airport. We assign guides at 10:1
A thirty-minute walk from the lodge leads to the 34-meter scaffolding canopy tower. A banister staircase running through the middle provides safe access to the platforms above. The tower has been built upon high ground, therefore increasing your horizon of the continuous primary forest extending out towards the Tambopata National Reserve. From here views of mixed species canopy flocks as well as toucans, macaws, and raptors are likely.
The light glares against the sheet, highlighting its white color against the dark jungle night. As the bright light flickers, moths begin to flutter towards it. You study them carefully, noting their shapes and patterns. By the end of the night, you might have discovered a new species unknown to science. Now, you get to name it yourself!
Two hours from the lodge, deep in the Tambopata National Reserve you will stop at the Chuncho clay lick. After a brief walk (~5 minutes) you will have the chance to see dozens of large macaws feeding on the special sodium-rich clays of the riverbank. The Chuncho clay lick probably attracts more large macaws than any other clay lick in the world and the sight of dozens of macaws taking flight is truly unforgettable. The details of our stopover will depend on the weather and the amount of macaw activity, as the birds don’t visit the clay lick when it is raining.
Meet the charismatic Don Manuel from the neighboring community of Condenado. Just five minutes downriver from the lodge he grows organically a variety of popular and unknown Amazon crops. On this fruit-farm excursion, every plant and tree you see serves a purpose.
Along the ethnobotanical trail, you will find a variety of plants and trees that are used by the local population with at least the same variety of purposes. Learn about the medicinal (and other) uses of Ajo-Sacha, Yuca de Venado, Uña de Gato, Charcot-Sacha, Para-Para, among several others
It is time to say goodbye, as the expedition comes to an end.
Your visit will make a direct contribution to the scientific projects of Wired Amazon and their conservation efforts onwards learning about the biodiversity of the Tambopata National Reserve.
You will take the journey back to the city to the airport for your national flight onwards.
